100 Limited Edition Pear Goddesses
A celebration of all things fun and feminine
Here is my offering; a harvest of pears.
Now you can pick your favourite. Each is limited edition / 100, labelled ‘First Harvest’ and signed on the base.
You will receive a certificate of authenticity with each pear and I hope it brings you a sense of joy and optimism for many years to come
Any pears ordered will be posted by the start of July so that they can remain on display in my studio for a little while before they travel to their new homes.
It’s been a joy to be working in the open studio here creating these, and while telling a visitor about the idea she said ‘‘wow, you’ll make a whole tree’s worth”. This was wonderful as she clearly understood and joined in my excitement for the project but more than this, her comment made me think of them as a harvest. How wonderful for the collective noun of these little pears to be a ’harvest’.
When I looked deeper into the symbolism and history of pears in art it was thrilling and energising to learn that, not surprisingly, the pear has often been associated with the female form. The pear is frequently seen as a symbol of sensuality - the curves of the fruit have represented the female body in art for centuries, making it an obvious choice for me and this piece a celebration of all things fun and feminine.
Further links with my evolving work were found when I read that, in Christian tradition, the pear is often used to symbolise the sweetness of virtue between the virgin and child and is shown as the fruit of the tree of life, which has been another recent focus of my work, is this a coincidence? I like to believe it isn’t
